Todos los fuegos el fuego is het tweede deel van Maxim Shalygins grootse cyclus S I M I L A R, die in het Minimal Music Festival voor het eerst in samenhang te horen is. Een homogene klank laten exploderen in kleur en emotionaliteit, dat is het uitgangspunt van S I M I L A R.

Na Lacrimosa voor zeven violen componeerde Shalygin Todos los fuegos el fuego voor acht saxofoons. De uitvoering is in voortreffelijke handen bij het Keuris Quartet en het Amstel Quartet, die in 2019 ook de wereldpremière speelden. Het vierde deel van S I M I L A R, Delirium voor vier piano’s, is de afsluiting van dit festival.De in Oekraïne geboren Shalygin componeert niet voor tere zielen, maar voor wie bereid is de duistere kanten van het bestaan in het gezicht te kijken. Voor Todos los fuegos el fuego liet hij zich inspireren door de gelijknamige verhalenbundel van de Argentijnse schrijver Julio Cortázar, waarin telkens een parallel universum door de alledaagse werkelijkheid breekt. De saxofoon is voor Shalygin bij uitstek het instrument om de literaire wereld van de bevlogen jazzliefhebber Cortázar te vertalen naar muziek.
