Sylvia Maessen @ Classical:NEXT

sylvia maessen.jpg

In the contemporary compositions of Sylvia Maessen elements of improvisation can be heard in different ways. In a unique style she combines different musical styles, such as classical, jazz and world music, which often leads to unexpected turns and improvisation-like passages. She wants to make full use of the qualities and possibilities of the musicians, but also challenge them to take unknown paths. In general, Maessen's ability to combine different musical styles and to allow improvisation is a key to the dynamic and interactive quality of her compositions.
