Daughter of the Vine cut
Diederik van der Laag
Live recorded on October 24, 2021, in the Marnixzaal, DUMS (Utrecht). The program consisted of 45 minutes of new music based on quatrains by Omar Khayyam (pronounced: Gá-jaam). This Persian polymath was the centerpiece of our first Vocal Lab. Fun fact: in 1079, the Sultan asked Khayyam to design a new calendar. This calendar is still in use today in parts of the Arab world. In addition to his work in mathematics and astronomy, he wrote many poems about life wisdom, embracing the finitude of existence, and how wine can help with that.Title: Daughter of the Vine Ensemble: SSATTB + 6 wine glasses Composer: Diederik van der Laag Text: Omar Khayyam Conductor: Jurriaan Poesse Video: Desiree Coumans Audio Recording: Concertzender"In Daughter of the Vine, I try to connect two sides of Omar Khayyam: existential depth and a love for alcohol.
