Forest Fires
Joan Reinders
In Bleeding Amazonia Part 5: Forest Fires, Joan Reinders addresses the devastation caused by forest fires in the Amazon, with Gerlo Hesselink’s evocative soprano saxophone solo leading the charge. The intensity of the fires is reflected through the rhythm section, with Felix Schlarmann on drums and Vincent Spitters on percussion driving the chaos. The Millennium Jazz Orchestra plays with an urgent, almost frantic energy, creating a sonic landscape that mirrors the destruction. Joan Reinders, both conductor and composer, fuses jazz with orchestral nuances to evoke the terror and hopelessness of forest fires. This piece was recorded in Wisseloord Studios in 2021.
