Hypothermia

Hypothermia thumbnail

Hypothermia, part of the Toonzetters album, showcases a striking, minimalist approach to sound. Performed by Shane van Neerden, Ramon van Engelenhoven, Agostinho Sequeira, and Arjan Jongsma, the piece conjures a sense of coldness and intensity through its stark and expansive textures.

Toonzetters is an album featuring 20 composers, all in their twenties, who wrote 3-minute compositions for piano four- or two hands and/or percussion. The result is a vibrant auditory portrait of the new generation of composers in The Netherlands, presented as a continuous musical narrative. The compositions are wide-ranging, from the delicate solo piano work with only a single octave (Celia Swart – Loosing) to expansive electronic soundscapes (Dimitri Geelhoed – IJsjager), and from the infectious Persian musical language of Ramin Amin Tafreshi to the clever, intricate Zoekspiegel by Arjan Linker.Hypothermia is one of the featured compositions, performed by Shane van Neerden, Ramon van Engelenhoven, Agostinho Sequeira, and Arjan Jongsma. Recorded with care by 7 Mountain Records, this piece evokes the stark coldness and intensity suggested by its title, creating a striking contrast through its sharp, minimalist sounds.
