Springs Eternal

Vanessa Lann

Springs Eternal thumbnail

For 'Springs Eternal', Vanessa Lann drew inspiration from Beethoven's 'Spring Sonata', in which he treated the violin and piano as equals: with no true soloist and no clear accompanist. In the same way, the instruments in Lann's work switch roles. However, 'Spring' takes on a completely different meaning in this performance: the violin's sheet music is placed on five different music stands on stage, and the violinist has to turn, walk, and "jump" ("springen" in Dutch) to each stand while playing.
