Full Sun
Ziv Taubenfeld
Full Sun, founded in 2018 in Amsterdam, blends jazz, improvisation, and mysticism. With Ziv Taubenfeld at the helm, the group uses graphic scores and slow-developing grooves to create a warm, reflective atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from jazz legends like Sonny Simmons and Don Cherry, their performances encourage self-reflection and collective exploration.
Full Sun has its roots in the creative music community of Amsterdam. The ensemble was formed in 2018, following a “jazz workshop” method, where a growing pool of musicians began to explore the sonic vision of Ziv Taubenfeld’s compositions. The project has performed in various configurations, from quintet to septet, on stages and festivals in the Netherlands (BIMHUIS, Paradox, PlusEtage, etc.) and abroad (Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium).Full Sun aims to create a warm and creative atmosphere during performances through the use of graphic scores, mantra-like melodies, guidance, and slowly unfolding grooves. As Ziv Taubenfeld puts it: “The compositions and improvisations guide the ensemble through mystical paths and encourage individuals to engage in self-reflection within a group context – JAZZ!”Improvisation will always be Ziv Taubenfeld's primary inspiration. His love for jazz artists like Sonny Simmons and Don Cherry brings various elements into his repertoire. “These artists have a unique way of conveying jazz and swing. My greatest concern is to keep their spirit, and sometimes their articulations, alive.” As for his compositions, Ziv Taubenfeld was inspired by the Natufian culture. “It’s a culture that existed twelve thousand years ago in the Middle East. I believe that by exploring such ancient cultures, we can understand essential elements of our own personalities.”Lineup Ziv Taubenfeld | bass clarinet, balafon, gongs Joost Buis | trombone Nicolas Chientaroli | piano Omer Govreen | double bass Rozemarie Heggen | double bass Onno Govaert | drums, percussion
