Piet-Jan van Rossum

Aki ga Kuru by Piet-Jan van Rossum is part of his cycle about the seasons, blending music with nature in a unique outdoor tour. Featuring two harps, violin, cello, soprano, and gong (played by the composer), this piece explores silence and attentive listening in natural settings.

Piet-Jan van Rossum, a composer from the Brabant countryside, dedicates a cycle to the four seasons. The latest piece, Aki ga Kuru, is set to premiere during a tour across four outdoor locations, embodying his philosophy of "music blending into the environment." The ensemble is unique, featuring two harps, violin, cello, soprano, and gong, played by the composer himself. Growing up in a family of horticulturists, van Rossum (born in Delft in 1966) has always felt more connected to the countryside than the city. His music, which was shaped in the concert hall, now finds its home outdoors—where silence and attentive listening are rare but precious.
