Diamonds

Martin Fondse

Martin Fondse's "Diamonds" suite, inspired by the thirteen diamond cards, brings together Voice Orchestra and Vox Sturnus, a mix of musicians and vocalists creating unique chamber music.

A few years ago, Martin Fondse began setting playing cards to music by creative accident. Through the exchange of heart cards with other musicians, small chamber pieces emerged, and by now, he has composed six jokers for a solo project. For his composition commission, he chose the thirteen cards of diamonds. Since the English word "diamonds" offers a more elegant inspiration than "ruiten" (the Dutch word for diamonds), diamonds became the key to this new suite.VOICE ORCHESTRA: Martin Fondse – piano, Fender Rhodes, flute Eric van der Westen – double bass Romain Bly – horn, euphonium, drums Miguel Boelens – alto saxophone, bass clarinet Trygve Seim – tenor and soprano saxophoneVOX STURNUS: Margriet Sjoerdsma – vocals Sanne Huijbregts – vocals, kalimba, marimba, glockenspiel, hotel bell Anne Marie Roel Messerschmidt – vocals Thora Sveinsdottir – vocals, viola Maaike van der Linde – vocals, flute, bass flute Susanne Rosmolen – vocals, cello
