Disturbing Light - An experience in sound and image

Rieteke Hölscher

Disturbing Light offers an otherworldly journey into a space where visuals and sound intertwine seamlessly. With dreamy, shifting soundscapes and shadowy figures, this performance challenges perceptions and invites the audience to lose themselves in an enigmatic atmosphere where time slips away.

Disturbing Light by composer Rieteke Hölscher is an immersive multidisciplinary experience that blurs the boundaries between image and sound. In collaboration with graphic designer Marij Janssen, this work brings figures to life, casting their shadows across the wall, while the violin, piano, and organic-sounding electronic soundscapes guide the atmosphere. The performance feels like stepping into a dream—ethereal and elusive—where time seems to shift and stretch, creating a world that is both multiversal and enigmatic. As the audience is enveloped in these layers of sound and visual interplay, Disturbing Light creates a haunting space where reality fades and imagination takes hold.
