JIP Chamber Choir, conducted by Jonathan Ploeg, is a project choir from Utrecht, the Netherlands, founded in 2013 by brothers Jonathan and Imre Ploeg. The choir aims to present new and unknown choir music from all over the world, exploring powerful and fundamental themes like war and peace, the nomadic life, the refugee crisis, and the ecological crisis. In Drifting Afloat, composed and written by Vera Woerdeman (1994), the piece explores the vulnerable state of dreaming—where freedom and fear exist side by side. The lyrics by Woerdeman, with a Dutch translation by Marije Besselink, capture the delicate balance between surrendering to one’s subconscious and the emotional vulnerability it entails.
