The Matthias Van den Brande Trio, formed in 2021, breaks traditional instrument roles, featuring melody on drums and the saxophone in a supporting role. With meaningful collaborations and a debut album release at Bimhuis, they aim to reach a wider audience across Europe.

The Matthias Van den Brande Trio plays with the traditional roles of instruments: the melody is heard on the drums, with the saxophone taking a supportive role. Formed in 2021 by Matthias van den Brande, the trio draws from meaningful moments shared on and off stage over the years. With a strong sense of their own musical identity, they now feel ready to tell a compelling story through their performances. Matthias van den Brande, originally from Belgium, has played and recorded with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Tijs Klaassen, the bassist, leads his own quintet, which includes Van den Brande. The trio has won several European jazz competitions and in June, they will release their debut album at Bimhuis (Amsterdam), followed by a release tour in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Spain. With ambitions to play in larger venues and expand their audience, they seek to delve deeper into their musical soul and inspiration.
