Commissioned by Kamerkoor NEXT, composer Diederik van der Laag created Midsummer Night, inspired by a poem by Sara Teasdale. This piece for six-part divided choir and electric guitar explores repetition and transformation, with phrases returning in shifting harmonic colors. From a single soloist to high-pitched guitar notes and the full richness of the choir, the music unfolds in waves of ever-changing light and texture.Diederik van der Laag: Midsummer Night (world premiere) Performed by Kamerkoor NEXT, Stefan Gerritsen (guitar), and Machteld Radstake (alto), conducted by Fokko Oldenhuis Live recording on June 23, 2023, at the Oudkatholieke Sint-Vituskerk, Hilversum
