René Samson, the Surinamese-Jewish composer, tragically passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy cherished by family, friends, musicians, and music enthusiasts. Among his many compositions, one of his notable works was "Waterspel," written for guitar and table piano, which he composed for the Geelvinck 2013 Call for Compositions. To honor his memory, the René Samson Foundation, established by his friends after his passing, has released a video showcasing six of René's compositions, performed by close musical collaborators, including cellist Doris Hochscheid, pianists Frans van Ruth and Shuann Chai, violist Jacobien Rozemond, flutist Marieke Franssen, and baritone Mattijs van de Woerd. This tribute offers a rich insight into the diverse and expressive nature of René's music.
