In the final movement of Joan Reinders' Water series, Zuiderzee focuses on the historical and environmental significance of the Zuiderzee, a large inland sea in the Netherlands that has been transformed into the IJsselmeer through land reclamation projects. This piece evokes the connection between water, human intervention, and the ongoing battle to reclaim and protect the land. Performed by Stefan and Martijn Blaak alongside the Millennium Jazz Orchestra, Zuiderzee blends classical and jazz elements to paint a vivid picture of the sea's powerful influence on the landscape and people. As in previous movements, Zuiderzee is introduced by video segments featuring experts such as Peter Kuipers Munneke, Li An Phoa, and Peter Glas, who provide insights into the environmental challenges posed by water management and land reclamation.
