Medusa is a four-part composition by Saskia Venegas, written for cello solo, electronics, and voice, and performed by Maya Fridman. The piece draws inspiration from the myth of Medusa, a priestess who was raped by the god Poseidon and, as punishment, transformed into a monster and exiled to a lonely island. Venegas uses the myth as a starting point to explore the symptoms of PTSD, reflecting on trauma, isolation, and the complex emotions tied to suffering and transformation. The music captures the raw emotional weight of the story, intertwining the expressive tones of the cello, haunting electronics, and voice to embody the inner turmoil of Medusa's journey.
